It might strike you as surprising that I’ve included a copy of George Orwell’s classic essay on Politics and the English Language, a merciless dissection of sloppy thinking and obfuscating prose. In fact I think the quality of writing in science is relatively high, especially compared to what I see in the humanities, but even so, this is something every scientist should read and take to heart.
